Dr.Tan-the joker we made at high school

Funny way he sits
What is a life without friends? Those friends i had during my high school life are the best friends that i have and i can't replace them. We really cherished every moment we had together. We did not care about the race and skin colour. What was important to us was the jokes we made and all of us laughed.

Surprisingly the 27 of us were in the same class for five years. We did not have cliques. I remember we even used to make fun of the "funny" teachers. There was once a male teacher named Dr.Tan. He was the only teacher in my school with Phd and he is always proud of that. He is very soft and girlish and he teaches us civics. Come on it is just Civics right-what a big deal about that?...but for him that is so important. We will make fun in class by keeping silent when he teach (he thinks we are keeping quite but actually it is the awkward silence we gave), some of my friend will even open the book and sleep. When one of us see another sleeping, then we will send signals to one another and we will start giggling because he will say that he is very proud that his students "love" his class and no one sleeps- but only we know. Even he is  so thin and we will joke that he might fly with strong wind.

Once, during our sports practice, suddenly the wind started blowing so fast and Dr. Tan was in charge of the high jump section. Although my classmates are all different houses, we stick together. We will chat at the same..kind of "our meeting spot" after the practices. The funny part was we witnessed Dr. Tan's body was not able to withstand the wind and he fell onto the mattress. Hahaha...if you saw that i think you can never stop laughing.Dr.Tan will never be serious..he will always teach and come back talking about his Phd..Damn funny. LOL. Even we made fun of his hair...which is close too bald but yet he uses gel and always takes care of those few leftovers on his head. I still remember that whenever he asks any questions he will give eye contact with me because i will be the one who will make fun but yet the only one who answers to his questions in a stupid manner and then everyone of us will laugh. We enjoyed his classes because he was funny to us. His class is the only class we dare to eat because he never knew. He is just too dedicated in his civics.

During exams we usually have a heavy subject with civics, like Biology or Chemistry test. When we don't read his civics- well again come on civics only what! He gets angry when we read other subjects and not preparing for his civics test. He will ask us to keep our books and read civics. We only read civics 10 minutes before test and yet we still get scores above 85%..so we don't care.I am sure all of us can score for civics right. Oh ya.. he is always proud to call himself a Maxwellian- his school since primary to high school.. oh god the way he talks so proudly of being maxwellian-a small school with a lot of jerks... even he agrees to that. We were sad when one day they said he will be transferred to his own school he came from- Maxwell. To be honest he was kind of happy but sad too. We were sad but not because he is leaving but because we lost a "joker". We still miss the fun we had during his class. We did cry a bit though..we cry when anyone leaves the school, even if we don't know who that person is...( kind of weird, but we liked that weirdness )

  1. Great post Kav, not only about Dr.Tan but about your friends at the beginning. In friendship, race, religion and color shouldn't matter. I think Dr. Tan is a dedicated teacher. I'm sure you enjoyed your lessons thanks to the joker!! So mean lah..It's true (unfortunately) that a lot of us do not give importance to Civics in school though. The posts was funny and I enjoyed reading it. I liked the colour combinations in your blog too, grey with a mixture of orange and white fonts.

  2. Nice one Kavita. It's great to see that you have such love for our country. It's good to see youngsters so excited for the very important National Day of our country. Pretty much a good review. Furthermore, it is simply wonderful to see you and your friends come together as one. The famous saying, "United we stand, divided we fall" is put to its great use. Great job I must say! Kudos to you!
